it-i-she-you-he

Cai Xi installations: "it-I-she-you-he"
The mannequin is covered by the pronouns – I, you, he, she and it – from many languages and by logos and ads. We are living in a consumer age where the world is becoming more and more connected like a village. Everything is in our faces and right nearby. We are absorbing information and participating in the market economy. We are all becoming consumer goods, selling ourselves, identifying with what we buy, valuing ourselves based on what we have and what we buy. Our selves are products of modern civilization, all singular, yet together, plural, out of one, many (the opposite direction of the motto of this country – e pluribus unum ‘out of many, one’)
